Normal tune, or 'Pitch Raise'?

Tuning makes sure each note sounds exactly as it should, relative to 'middle A', and according to the piano's own characteristics. The piano tuner achieves this both by ear and by electronics. Tuning is affected by amount of play, temperature and humidity, and if the piano is moved. A concert piano is tuned before every performance (and sometimes during!). A 'home' piano should be tuned at least every 6 months.

Sometimes, if the piano has not been tuned in a while it will have dropped in pitch. If this is the case, a pitch raise will be required. This means that the piano is 'rough tuned', and then 'fine tuned'. This can be done in one visit, but depending on how far the pitch has dropped, it may need two or more fine tunes before it becomes stable.
